Faculty of Mining educates experts in the first, and from the school year 2011/12 in the second cycle of studies / master studies. In addition, he is engaged in professional education and training in his native fields, as well as scientific research work.
Mining engineering is use of engineering and scientific principles in the exploration and extraction of minerals from land and sea. Therefore, in addition of studying special subjects in the field of mining, there are also a subjects in field of geological profession and science, then fundamental sciences, engineering sciences, engineering design, economics, computer applications, management, human health and environmental protection, all that to someday have sustainable development. The curriculum at the Faculty of Mining includes modern theoretical interpretations of relevant phenomena and processes in appropriate technologies for extraction of raw mineral materials and minerals, as well as the technology itself, research equipment, devices and machinery used in modern mining.
According to the licensed programs in the unique study program of the Faculty of Mining (first cycle study program of Mining and second cycle study program of Mining and Geological Engineering), through elective courses students are directed to more extensive acquisition of knowledge and skills in the field of surface exploitation, underground exploitation, mineral preparation of raw materials, oil and gas exploitation. Full guidance is achieved in the second study cycle through modules from: 1. surface exploitation of mineral deposits, 2. underground exploitation of mineral deposits, 3. preparation of mineral raw materials 4. exploitation of oil and gas and 5. geological engineering.
Mission – In order to realize the vision, the mission of the Faculty of Mining as a scientific and educational institution positioned in the status of an organizational unit of the University of Banja Luka, is to constantly innovate teaching content, apply modern methods and techniques of education and through the research process, educate young and quality experts in research, exploitation and preparation of raw mineral materials. Education covers a full range of traditional and advanced technologies in line with regional development trends. Education at the Faculty of Mining is in the process of harmonization with European trends and continuous and systematic work on improving all areas of quality assurance (study programs, teaching, research, student evaluation, textbooks, resources, non-teaching support, management process), raising efficiency in the educational process, connecting educational, scientific-research and professional activities, as well as building and improving internal organization. In that sense, the Faculty of Mining plans, in accordance with the Bologna Declaration and general goals of the University of Banja Luka, organizes not only studies with knowledge and competencies in the field of mining and geology, but also knowledge related to environmental protection, construction of infrastructure facilities, space planning and all that is similar and tied with that. Also, the faculty plans to organize forms of lifelong learning through a series of lectures, seminars, courses, etc. The main long-term goals of the Faculty of Mining in the field of education are to form experts ready to lead dynamic changes in modern society through flexible study programs, especially in the field of research, planning, exploitation and use of raw mineral materials. The long-term goals of the Faculty of Mining in the field of scientific research are aimed at substantially improving the conditions for scientific research, so that in the future the quality of this activity will significantly improve, and the Faculty of Mining will become a driving force for renewing intensive research and design work in this field.
Vision – The vision of the Faculty of Mining is to develop into a modern European higher education institution recognized for its scientific research achievements and achievements of its graduates and postgraduates in the field of planning, exploration, exploitation and use of mineral resources while preserving and improving the environment in accordance with sustainable development principals, and that graduates and postgraduates have knowledge, skills and training for independent work and team work. The vision is for the Faculty of Mining to train future leaders of economic progress in our country and the region, experts who can be involved in scientific research in institutes and faculties around the world.
